Ways You Can Help Headway Jersey?
Here are just a few of the ways you can get involved:
Day Centre Support
Chat with members, assist with activities, help serve lunch, or simply offer a listening ear.
Drive & Accompany
Volunteer as a minibus escort or offer assistance during outings and events, helping members safely access the community.
Creative & Therapy Sessions
If you have a talent for art, music, crafts, or movement, help us bring therapeutic joy to our sessions.
Fundraising & Events
Support our campaigns, charity events, or community fundraisers, every penny raised keeps our services running.
Admin & Behind-the-Scenes
Lend your skills to our office, marketing, or fundraising team, you don’t need to be front-of-house to make a big impact.
Bucket Collections
Bucket collections are one of the simplest, most impactful ways to support Headway Jersey. Not only do they raise essential funds, but they help us share our mission with the wider community.
Gardening & Outdoor Volunteering
Step away from your desk for a rewarding and meaningful day outdoors. Our members take part in gardening and horticultural activities as part of their rehabilitation, and we’re developing an accessible garden space to support this work.
We need corporate teams to help with:
digging and planting
weeding and watering
painting and light maintenance
tidying and organising outdoor areas
This is hands-on, fulfilling, and ideal for team-building, while directly supporting the wellbeing of our brain injury survivors.
Cash Counting & Collections Support
If your team prefers something detail-oriented, we often need support counting cash from fundraising events and community collections, especially during busy periods such as Brain Injury Awareness Month.
Everyone is welcome. Whether you're retired, working part-time, a student, or simply want to give back, we’ll work with you to find a role that suits your time, interests, and energy.

Meet Our Ambassadors & Regular Volunteers

After falling over seven feet at work, Paul suffered a traumatic brain injury that changed everything. For two years, his family searched for support until they found Headway Jersey.
Through our Day Centre and art sessions, Paul slowly regained confidence, purpose, and a sense of belonging. His wife, Sue, calls Headway “a lifeline” not just for Paul, but for their whole family.
Now, Sue is one of our proud Ambassadors, helping other families find the hope and support they need, just like they did.

With a 25-year career in nursing and healthcare, including his role as a Senior Health Care Assistant for the Government of Jersey’s Special Needs Department, Steve brought with him a wealth of professional knowledge, compassion, and expert care. He was also a trained minibus driver through his work in Health and Social Services, which made him an invaluable addition to our transport service.

Alison began volunteering with Headway Jersey in 2021, inspired by the care and support her husband Terry received after his stroke in 2005. As his mobility declined, Terry attended Headway’s Tuesday exercise classes, where transport was arranged so he could stay active and connected.
After Terry sadly passed away, Alison continued volunteering as a way to give back to the charity that had meant so much to them both. She describes it as deeply rewarding, a chance to honour Terry’s memory while supporting others on their journey of recovery and hope.

Wayne was an active marathon runner when, during a local 5km race in St Helier, his life changed in an instant. He suffered a severe stroke caused by a blockage in his brain and was flown to Southampton for emergency surgery that saved his life.
After weeks in hospital and a year of speech therapy, Wayne worked hard to rebuild his strength and confidence. He later discovered a hole in his heart had caused the stroke and underwent surgery to repair it. Despite ongoing challenges, including post-stroke epilepsy, Wayne has returned to running and now volunteers with Headway Jersey, giving back to others on the same journey of recovery and resilience.
