Our Day Centre Activities

Therapeutic Activities

Headway Jersey Rehabilitation Day Centre
Supporting Jersey residents recovering from brain injury, including stroke, aneurysm, haemorrhage, brain tumour, or fall-related injuries.
  • Art therapy sessions use colour, texture, and creative expression to support emotional healing, enhance cognitive function, and build confidence, all while providing a calming, therapeutic outlet. We have a dedicated art room in our day centre.

  • Music sessions using rhythm, song, and instruments to stimulate memory, improve communication, and boost mood.

  • Chair boxing is a safe, seated exercise that helps brain injury survivors improve strength, coordination, balance, and cognitive function. The rhythmic movements enhance motor control, boost cardiovascular fitness, and support neuroplasticity, the brain’s ability to form new pathways. It’s energising, fun, and accessible for members of all mobility levels, helping build confidence while supporting both physical and mental wellbeing.

  • Chair Yoga offers a gentle yet effective way to improve flexibility, balance, and wellbeing, all from a seated position.
These accessible sessions are perfect for all abilities, helping to ease tension, strengthen the body, and calm the mind through guided movement and breathwork.

  • Seated Tai Chi offers a calming, 20–30 minute practice designed to relax the body and reset the nervous system.
Performed to gentle music, these occasional sessions use slow, flowing movements to reduce tension, improve circulation, and promote a deep sense of inner peace, all from the comfort of a chair.

  • Ball coordination activities help rebuild balance, motor skills, and confidence for people recovering from brain injury. Simple movements like catching, rolling, or guiding a ball support hand–eye coordination, concentration, and cognitive processing. These exercises are gentle, enjoyable, and highly effective for improving mobility, reaction time, and overall physical independence.

  • Animal therapy brings joy, comfort, and connection to our members through short, friendly visits from dogs owned by volunteers, ambassadors, or team members.
These 20-minute sessions are a gentle, uplifting way to brighten someone’s day, offering companionship, calm, and a special kind of happiness that only animals can bring.

  • Knitting and crocheting sessions offer a calming, hands-on way to improve focus, coordination, and fine motor skills, while creating something beautiful.
These social, tactile activities also help reduce anxiety, spark conversation, and give members a sense of purpose and achievement through every stitch.

Rehabilitation Services

Headway Jersey Rehabilitation Day Centre
Supporting Jersey residents recovering from brain injury, including stroke, aneurysm, haemorrhage, brain tumour, or fall-related injuries.
  • Free neuro-physiotherapy, and activities that restore strength and independence.

  • Programme provides structured, physio-led exercise in the water, designed specifically for people recovering from brain injuries

  • Our upper-limb exercise sessions focus on rebuilding strength, mobility, and functional movement in the arms, shoulders, and hands following a brain injury. These targeted exercises support neuroplasticity, helping the brain reconnect with the body and improving everyday tasks such as lifting, reaching, gripping, and fine-motor control.

  • Craniosacral therapy is a gentle, hands-on treatment that supports relaxation, reduces tension, and helps the body’s natural healing processes. Using light touch, the therapist works with the soft tissues around the head, spine, and pelvis to ease pressure, calm the nervous system, and improve overall wellbeing. For individuals recovering from brain injury, this therapy can help reduce headaches, muscle tightness, stress, and fatigue while promoting a greater sense of balance, comfort, and emotional ease.

  • Specialist-led sessions that help members rebuild communication skills affected by brain injury. Therapy supports speech, comprehension, and expression, while also addressing swallowing and cognitive challenges.

Personalised Advocacy & Safeguarding

Headway Jersey Rehabilitation Day Centre
  • Our Advocacy & Safeguarding service ensures every Headway member feels heard, protected, and supported.
We assist with completing essential documents, navigating systems like Social Security, healthcare, housing, and tax, and help members understand their rights. Our team also liaises with families, professionals, and agencies to communicate each member’s needs, ensuring their voice is at the centre of every decision. It's all about empowering individuals to live with dignity, confidence, and independence.

  • Our Brain Injury ID Card offers members a discreet yet powerful way to advocate for themselves in everyday situations.
Worn on a lanyard or kept close, the card identifies the individual as someone living with a brain injury—helping others understand that they may need extra time, patience, or support with communication. It’s a simple tool that can make a big difference in boosting confidence, reducing anxiety, and fostering understanding in public, social, or professional settings.

how can you join?

Ready to Join? Here’s How

  • Once you’ve received an official medical diagnosis of a brain injury, whether from a stroke, haemorrhage, aneurysm, fall, or any other cause, you’re warmly welcome to join our Headway Jersey community. From that moment on, you’re free to attend as often or as little as suits you. Whether you're drawn to specific rehabilitation sessions, creative therapies, or relaxing social outings, your journey with us is flexible and fully tailored to your needs.

  • To access our services, we require a referral from a healthcare professional. This can be your GP, physiotherapist, speech and language therapist, occupational therapist, nurse, hospital consultant, or any qualified medical professional.
They can either write directly to us or request our official referral form. This step is essential and cannot be skipped, as it ensures we provide the right support for your specific needs.

  • Come and see what Headway Jersey is all about. During your visit, you’ll meet our friendly team, connect with some of our members, and get a feel for whether our community is the right fit for your recovery journey.
It’s completely normal to feel nervous, think of it like the first day of school but you won’t be alone. Our warm, welcoming team will guide you every step of the way.
You don’t need to attend every session or come every week. You’re free to explore our timetable and choose the classes, therapies, or social groups that suit you best.
We recommend bringing a family member along, so you can make the decision together with confidence and support.

  • Facing life after a brain injury can feel overwhelming, but you don’t have to do it alone. At Headway Jersey, we’re here to help you take that first step with compassion and care.
Your welcome session is a chance to experience the environment at your own pace, meet others who truly understand, and gently begin integrating into our community. No pressure, no expectations, just support, understanding, and a space to start finding your new way forward.
