2014 Hats4Headway Competition
Friday 23rd May
Friday 23rd May is Hats4Headway Day and you’re all invited to take part regardless of whether you’re in the office, at school or making your merry way round the Island.
Why not get sponsored for wearing your funny hat all day? Organise a ‘Keep your hat on challenge’? If found not wearing your hat you get fined! Host a hat relay where you swap hats on the hour? Run a design a hat competition or give a prize for funniest hat or even organise a hat themed cake sale!
This year we will also be running a completion with 2 categories – adults and children’s most fun hat (or hat themed cake!). Headway’s very own craft group will be judging this year’s entries and are looking for fun and original designs.
The prizes will be a cycle helmet of the winner’s choice from the Headway Jersey Charity shop. As this year’s Action for Brain Injury Awareness Week theme focuses on the fact that we are all at risk from brain injury we are keen to encourage islanders to reduce the risks. Wearing a helmet is a simple way we can all help to protect ourselves when out and about on the busy streets of Jersey.
Entering the competition couldn’t be easier, simply create a hat or a hat themed cake, take a photo and upload it on to Facebook, Instagram or Twitter accompanied with #headwayjersey. Alternatively, you can simply add Headway Jersey on Facebook and link your photo to our page.
Extra point will be awarded if you get a photo of yourself with the Storm Troopers and add #stormtoopersjersey. The Stormtroopers support our campaign to wear protective head gear when taking part in sports and cycling. They will be stationed at Bean Around the World coffee shop in Halkett Street. We will also have a representative out in the west of the island… details to be announced!
So how can wearing a hat really make a difference! By wearing (or baking!) a hat you are helping to create awareness of brain injury as well as raising funds. There are many people in the Island who live their lives with a brain injury, as well as affecting the individual it also has a dramatic impact on families and carers. Headway Jersey, the brain injury charity, helps by providing support, information & services from the Headway Centre at La Coie. It is open 5 days a week and runs a minibus service to ensure those in need can access various services to help rehabilitate, develop life skills and prevent social isolation to its members.
